Travel & Subsistence Ballot Result

Dear Member,

The Ballot on the new proposed Travel & Subsistence Scheme expired at 12 Midday today and I wish to inform you that the scheme was approved by the following vote

- In Favour (Yes) : 85.1% (3,006 votes)

- Not in Favour (No) : 14.9% (493)

(37.6% turnout, 3,499 of 9,298 registered members)

As I stated in my communication prior to Voting, An Garda Síochána Travel and Subsistence Scheme hasn’t been increased since 2008 and we have been paid rates that are 50% less than every other public servant.

The new Scheme is the result of two years of negotiations between the Garda Representative Association with Garda Management and Government departments in the WRC.

This Scheme will entitle every member to be paid the maximum rates that any employee can be paid under any travel and subsistence scheme. In addition to this, we have agreed two additional variations that will solely apply to members of An Garda Síochána. These two variations will allow members to claim subsistence in situations where members are directed to perform duty in situations that aren’t covered by the public service scheme.

Importantly, this new scheme will be linked to the Consumer Price Index to ensure that any future circulars from Revenue relating to adjustments in travel and subsistence rates will apply to this scheme.

These increases are long overdue, and I wish to thank every member that cast their vote.

Ronan Slevin,

General Secretary
